KUALA LUMPUR Matrix Flavours & Fragrances Sdn Bhd walked away with the top honours at this year's Enterprise 50 (E50) Awards.

The second and third place went to Starkiss Food Corp Sdn Bhd and Natural Health Farm Marketing Sdn Bhd respectively.

The top 10 list were completed by Wellness Concept (M) Sdn Bhd, Walta Engineering sdn Bhd, Intralink Techno Sdn Bhd, Exis Tech Sdn Bhd, Pacestar Industries Sdn Bhd, Yinpolin Agriculture Sdn Bhd and Gateway Option sdn Bhd.

Jointly organised by the Small and Medium Industries Development Corp (Smidec) and Deloitte Consulting Malaysia Sdn Bhd, E50 is an annual award aimed at promoting the success of local enterprises.

Telekom Malaysia Bhd and RHB Bank Bhd were the supporting sponsors, while Business Times was the official publication.

Fifty local companies were presented with the awards at a ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur last night for their outstanding performance.

The awards were presented by International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan, representing Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

Also present were SME Corp Malaysia chairman Datuk Mohamed Al-Amin Abdul Majid, SME Corp chief executive officer Datuk Hafsah Hashim and Deloitte Consulting Malaysia Sdn Bhd country managing partner Tan Theng Hooi.

Speaking at an earlier press conference, Hafsah said nominations for this year had shown improvements in financial performance.

She said more nominations had been also received from the services sector, particularly from the advertising and logistics industries.

"Of the 83 nominations received from the various industries, 50 winners were evaluated and selected based on key qualitative and quantitative criteria," she said.

This year marks the 15th installation of the Enterprise 50 Award.

Since its inauguration in 1997, the E50 Award programme has been successful in attracting a continuous stream of nominations from among the best of Malaysia's home-grown enterprises - coming from a multitude of industries

The winners this year have shown significant growth in turnover, recording a total cumulative turnover of RM1.02 billion last year compared with RM681.5 million seen in 2009.
